Cara Dillon 《BONNY BONNY》 Bonny, bonny was my seat in the red rosy yard And bonny was my ship in the town of Ballynagard Shade and shelter was for me till I began to fail You all may guess now my distress lies near the Nightingale Grief and woe that I must go to fight for England's King I neither know his friend or foe, and war's a cruel thing The nightingale is near at hand, my time at home is brief And Carey's steams and mountain land I part with bitter grief No more I'll walk the golden hills with Nancy by my side Or dream along the sun bright rills, or view my land with pride We sail away at dawn of day, the sails are ready set When old Benmore I see no more, I'll sigh with deep regret Now all must change and I must range across the ocean wide Our ship she may in Biscay's Bay lie low beneath the tide If I should fall by cannon ball, or sink beneath the sea Good people all, a tear let fall and mourn for mine and me If God should spare me my greying hair and bring me back again I'd love far more my Antrim shore, its dark blue hills and rain Around the fires, my heart's desires, heaven grant till life shall fail And keep me far from the cruel war and from the Nightingale bonny, bonny ,是我玫瑰园的长椅 bonny, bonny, 是为我遮风挡雨的小舟一叶 只到有一天,我慢慢的倒下 夜莺初啼,你会知道我我的烦恼 为了国王我将踏上征程,悲伤懊恼填满我心 我不知道谁是朋友谁是敌人,我只知道战争多么残酷 夜莺初啼,我知道在家时日无多 作别家乡的山水和故土,我悲伤满怀 再不能和心上人,去到那夕阳下的青山 再不能在梦里的山梁上,遥望家乡的土地 我们在黎明即将上路,远航的风帆已经拉满 当家乡渐行渐远,唯有叹息遗恨交织我心 面目全非的我,要穿越那遥远的海峡 我们的战船会停靠在比斯开湾,落潮的地方 如果我倒在炮火中,或是长眠于深海 善良的人们啊,请流下你一滴眼泪,为我和我的一切过往 如果上苍染黑我花白的发丝,让我回到家乡 我会更加热爱那金色海滩,蓝色的山梁和黑色的雨滴 炉火边,让我的愿望在天堂里实现,只到我倒下的那一刻 让我远离那残酷的战火,远离那夜莺的啼哭 卡拉-迪仑(Cara Dillon)来自爱尔兰,来自那个国徽里有竖琴的国度。 她在麦克(Mike Oldfield)的节目中演唱了“Man in the Rain”,和格斯特兰(Ghostlan)同台演出,一起演唱,同Dolores Keane, Mary Black, Eleanor McEvoy和Maura O’Connell一起参加著名的“Women’s Heat”巡回演出。

1 Known, on CD, as Clifford Brown with Max Roach.
2 The remastering on Mosaic’s Complete box-set merits a *.
3 Released on CD, by Warner Bros., as Turn Out the Stars: The Final Village
Vanguard Recordings.
4 Originally three Verve LPs: Trumpet Battle, The Trumpet Kings, and Tour de
Force.
5 Originally two Verve LPs: Fusion and Thesis.
6 The latest of many, near-equally excellent single-disc compilations taken from
Columbia’s 9-volume Quintessential Billie Holiday series.
7 Also released on a Milestone LP, The Greatest Jazz Concert Ever.
8 Confirmation, also on Verve, is a very good two-CD excerpt of this 10-CD box.
Yardbird Suite [Rhino] is a very good two-CD set taken from the Dial, Savoy, and
Verve recordings.
9 Maybe not the best Sinatra album, but the best that can be called,
indisputably, jazz.
Top 100 Jazz Albums of the Twentieth Century by Fred Kaplan Jazz is a Twentieth
Century music, so "the greatest jazz of the century" is also "the greatest jazz
of all time." Contriving a list of this greatest is all the more daunting,
since, in its brief evolution, jazz has gone through as many epochs and
permutations as classical music has in its near half-millennium. Partly this is
because most Twentieth Century art forms place a premium on the new. Jazz is
also an improvisational art; its music, even if composed to some degree, is
never carved in stone, always subject to change, often defined by change. Jazz
has also been, at various times, a hotly competitive art, which has pushed the
pressure for new angles. The fact that jazz, almost from its beginnings, has
been recorded and sold has accelerated its development: Whenever one musician
advanced the art, other musicians heard it, studied it, took it as a new
benchmark, and aimed to match or top it, or at least to account for it in their
own spin. Finally, being a popular art, in the sense that it exists only to the
degree that it is played before an audience (a book is still a book even if
nobody reads it, a symphony can exist solely as a score), jazz has also been
whooshed by the winds of social change. As a result of all this, jazz fans are
as fractured, or eclectic, a bunch as those attracted to classical music or to
art museums. A collector of Jack Teagarden shellacs may have little to say to
the downtown denizen who swoons for Cecil Taylor — any more than a scholar of
medieval icons is inclined to consort with a de Kooning enthusiast. Then again,
maybe all of them should hang out together more often. They, and the creations
they hold dear, have more in common than first glances, or hearings, suggest.
Still, we all have our leanings, and, as this list indicates, I have mine. Those
seeking signposts might notice that three-quarters of the recordings cited below
were recorded between 1945 and 1967. I suppose this reflects my personal taste,
though few would dispute that those years, by any measure, marked an era of
delirious richness in jazz. The music of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie,
which launched the era, never ceases to amaze, never sounds old even after
half-a-century. More to the point, its innovations of harmony and rhythm set in
motion an enduring cycle and counter-cycle of musical inventions, which either
spun variations on, or mounted rebellions against, be-bop’s flighty thrills or
rigid strictures. The era ended, I would argue, when these elaborations had
pretty much run their course, with nowhere left to go but the dead end of pure
expressionism or the desperation of rock-fusion. The music didn’t pick up for
another decade or so, when a new generation of artists came along, many of them
engaging in acts of creative consolidation, seeking new syntheses of music from
various eras, while others, inspired by the fruits of global
record-distribution, explored mixes with the music of lands previously uncharted
by jazz. Of course, this is a grossly simplified précis of modern jazz history.
(For one thing, nothing moves quite so linearly. For another, many masters —
Ellington and Armstrong, most notable — simply went their own course through the
various so-called epochs, occasionally challenged or inspired, but never really
altered, by the trends around them.) Nor does a mini-lecture on the era’s
importance fully explain why it so dominates this list — nor why it includes 16
recordings made after this period but only eight made before. Again, we all have
our leanings. Or as Robert Warshow once wrote, "A man watches a movie, and a
critic must acknowledge that he is that man." A man listens to a record album,
too. And so this is my list, a list of the 100 jazz albums that I most enjoy,
cherish, love. The artists are listed alphabetically, though when an artist has
more than one album on the list, I have cited them in the order of those that
(right now, anyway) I like best. The dates indicate when the material was
recorded, not necessarily when the album was released. The labels include,
first, the originals (at least those that first put them in LP or CD form), then
all major reissues. Most, but not all, of these records are still in print, one
glad tiding of the digital age. I have avoided big box-sets, except when
unavoidable. Finally, this list was drawn up irrespective of sonic criteria, but
I have placed an asterisk (*) next to those recordings that offer exceptionally
good sound. * Top picks, cream of the crop. All Music Lists are © 2001 Absolute

http://www.cssxblog.net/...mp3/heniyiyang.mp3
Last week President Bush named yet another person to oversee the federally funded family planning program who doesn't seem especially keen on federally funded family planning. He might have done better to pick his daughter Jenna.
Her book, "Ana's Story," about a Central American teenage mother who is HIV-positive, is refreshingly reality-based about sexual behavior -- in a way that her father's administration resists.
President Bush pushes funding for abstinence-only sex education, with students given no information about birth control or safe sex. Jenna Bush, who met Ana while working as a UNICEF intern in Latin America, understands that abstinence isn't always the chosen path.
"If you decide abstinence is right for you, don't let anyone tell you otherwise," she writes. "But if you decide that you're ready for a sexual relationship, the best way to protect yourself from HIV and other [sexually transmitted infections] is to be faithful to your partner and use a condom every time."
Good advice -- if only the federal government wanted American children of Ana's age to hear it. Instead, abstinence-only programs are riddled with misstatements that exaggerate the failure rate of condoms and minimize their ability to protect against disease.
President Bush requires abstinence-only programs to teach that "sexual activity outside the context of marriage is likely to have harmful psychological and physical effects." Jenna Bush describes how Ana, then 16, has sex for the first time with HIV-positive Berto: "She felt no fear, only love." She relates approvingly how a nurse told Ana at age 10 that "when she was older and ready to have sex that it was very important to always use condoms."
As Jenna Bush told Newsweek, "In Africa my dad's policies are pretty much in line with mine, but not domestically." ABC -- abstain, be faithful, use condoms -- is the message abroad, not at home.
Contrast Jenna Bush with the president's latest flawed choice for the post of acting deputy secretary for population affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services -- in other words, the official who oversees federal family planning programs and advises on reproductive health and adolescent pregnancy, including abstinence-only programs.
You may remember Bush's previous pick: Eric Keroack, who was medical director of a pregnancy-counseling (read: antiabortion) clinic that considered birth control "demeaning to women" and believed that making contraception available, "especially among adolescents, actually increases . . . out-of-wedlock pregnancy and abortion."
Keroack resigned after it was revealed that state Medicaid officials had taken action against his private medical practice in Massachusetts. Bush replaced him with Susan Orr, former senior director for marriage and family care at the conservative Family Research Council and an adjunct professor at Pat Robertson's Regent University. Orr seems to be Keroack Lite.
In 2001, when the Bush administration proposed lifting the requirement that health insurers of federal employees provide coverage for contraceptives, Orr cheered. "We're quite pleased, because fertility is not a disease," she said. "It's not a medical necessity that you have it." Tell that to girls like Ana.
The year before, Orr fought a D.C. Council bill requiring all employers to cover contraception -- with no exception for those, such as the Catholic Church, that have religious objections. I agree that a "conscience clause" should have been included, but Orr's opposition was disturbingly vitriolic. "The mask of choice is falling off," she said. "It's not about choice. It's not about health care. It's about making everyone collaborators with the culture of death."
page 2
The Family Research Council argues against funding the family planning program that Orr is slated to supervise. "We don't think there is an argument for taxpayer funding of contraception," the group's vice president for government affairs, Tom McClusky, told me.
The group has echoed that message in a prayer alert about the $283 million a year program that funds family planning clinics for low-income women. "Pray that Title X funding, which has increased even under Republican rule, will not be expanded," it urged. "May President Bush use the veto pen if necessary to make sure that the culture of death is restrained."
Asked if Orr agreed with those views, HHS spokesman Kevin Schweers replied in an e-mail: "Dr. Orr wouldn't have accepted the job . . . if she couldn't support the Administration's positions. This Administration has worked to ensure family planning grantees effectively provide safe and effective contraceptive products and services to clients in need." Hardly a ringing endorsement.
Almost 40 years ago, a member of Congress, urging the federal government to help lower-income women get access to birth control, made a point that seems lost on the Orrs of the world. "We need to take sensationalism out of this topic," he said. "If family planning is anything, it is a public health matter."
The lawmaker was George H.W. Bush -- and I suspect his granddaughter would understand, even if his son chooses not to.
A: I’m sorry for being late. The bus was stuck in a traffic jam for half an hour.
B: Well, I was afraid you would stand me up.
You’d better not break your appointment with the lawyer
